I Am Teaching Introduction to Digital Photography at Emory Continuing Education

I will be teaching Digital Photography I at Emory Continuing Education Starting This Thursday! It is a fun introduction to photography!

Come on out this Thursday. I will be teaching Digital Photography I.  If you feel that you are not taking full advantage of the features offered by your digital camera, this is the course for you. Composition, selective focus, saturated colors and proper exposure all combine to produce images which make the best use of digital photography's tools. Digital technology has changed the field of photography more rapidly and dramatically than any previous technical advance. Ideal for the enthusiastic hobbyist or a serious amateur, we will focus on how the operation of digital cameras differs from their film counterparts through a combination of class lecture and photographic assignments. Learning how the camera capabilities apply to actual photo-taking and the impact of megapixel, file compression, and print versus email output will greatly enhance your success in photography. We’ll also begin exploring the more complex aspects of photography, such as lighting, composition, use of flash, color and depth of field. You will share your work in class to enhance the class discussion. You are encouraged to delay the purchase of supplementary equipment until after class discussions. You can sign up at http://ece.emory.edu/catalogDetail.php?CatalogID=497

Let's Not Forget the Groom's Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

Groom Wedding Photography and Having Fun With It!!

Atlanta Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

A lot of Atlanta wedding photographers spend so much time with the bride that they forget there are two people getting married.  When the bride is getting ready and needs some personal time I usually see that as an opportunity to spend with the groom.  That way I am utilizing my time with everyone.   I love spending some time with the grooms men and getting to know the groom.  In general the booms men are very quick and fun.   The word fun should be the most important word when working with everyone.  As everyone knows the best photos are taken when you are relaxed and having fun!  It reflects your personality and the wedding party!  So let's not forget these guys and have fun with your Atlanta wedding photography!

Thank you so much for visiting!  Come by my site www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com or drop me a email at david@atlantaartisticweddings.com.  I would love to hear from you or answer any questions that you may have.

Gorgeous Wedding Dress! Photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Stunning Wedding Dress in Atlanta Wedding photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

Stunning Wedding Dress photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

This week I had the great honor of photographing such a wonderful couple at the Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta Georgia.  The bride choose such a beautiful dress.  It was a A - Line cut dress with these wonderful details on the long sleeves and a long train.   It is a classic in every way.  I loved this photo for a couple of reasons the classic columns accent the classic wedding dress. The other is her pose.  She is so relaxed and is drinking in the moment and light of the day.

Atlanta Wedding Photography at Night in the Rain by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

The Atlanta Skyline and Rain Make a Beautiful Back Drop to Your Wedding Photography!

Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

This week is one for the books.  I recently had the honor of shooting a wedding at the Builtmore Hotel in midtown Atlanta.  It is a historic building with two of the most beautiful ballrooms I have ever seen.  What makes a great venue is the people and the staff could not have been more gracious.   This wedding was for a wedding planners daughter.  I could not have been more honored when she asked me to be their photographer.  When I first meet the daughter I said we were not going to use the "R" word (rain).    As luck would have it the rain started in the morning and continued through out the day.   She did not let it damper her day though!  When it came time for the photography she was a real sport.  It stopped raining right when we got outside.  Usually you don't think of rain and the night as a good combo for photography but this could not have been better.  She was a real sport and walked in to the damp ground with her wedding dress and I lined them up on the Atlanta skyline. I think the reflection on the wet street and the city lights make for a beautiful photo.  I hope you enjoy the photo as much as I did taking it.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Please stop my site www.atlantaartisticweddings.com or email me at david@atlantaartisticweddings.com.   I would love to hear from you!

Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta is Wonderful Historic Venue for Your Wedding!

Historic Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta wedding photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

The Historic Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia with Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

I recently had the honor of shooting a wedding at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta.  The event rental is managed by Novare Events you can learn more about them at  http://novareevents.com/.  They have such wonderful professional staff and so very gracious.  The rental areas are the two original rooms of the hotel.  They are the Georgian and Imperial Ball rooms.  Each have these wonderful Columns that go up to the elaborate ceiling with plaster accents.

To give you some back ground on this wonderful venue it was built in 1924, The Biltmore Hotel was the focal point of Atlanta’s business and social life for almost sixty years. This splendid landmark was designed by the architecture firm Shultze and Weaver, who also designed such legendary hotels as The Breakers in Palm Beach, New York’s Waldorf-Astoria, The Pierre, and The Sherry Netherland. Once publicized as “The South’s Supreme Hotel”, The Biltmore closed its doors in 1982, following changes in ownership and years of steady decline. In 1999, after sixteen years of neglect and abandonment, The Biltmore underwent a total renovation, transforming the former hotel into a combination of Class A office space, retail and special event space. With the renovation of The Georgian and Imperial Ballrooms, and now listed on The National Register of Historic Places, The Biltmore quickly recaptured its standing as one of the social and business epicenters of Atlanta. Featuring original handcrafted plaster relief ceilings, restored crystal chandeliers, Palladian windows and Tennessee marble floors, the Biltmore Ballrooms offer a truly spectacular backdrop for weddings, corporate events, or any social occasion.

Save the Date Photography at Piedmont Park and Map of Photo Locations in Atlanta by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Piedmont Park Great Location for Engagement Photography by Atlanta Artistic Weddings

best photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

It is always about the light.  I usually like to shoot in the morning.  The sun is low in the sky and you are not rushed to get that last shot before the sun goes down.  This Saturday if you were in Atlanta you know that this was the most beautiful day we have had in a very long time.  I had a photo session with this wonderful couple on Saturday afternoon not knowing that if were going to be blessed with such great weather.  When we got to the Piedmont Park it was packed.  Just about everyone in Atlanta wanted to get outside and enjoy the day.   We walked around the park for the usual places everyone shoots at but I saw this place and said we have to stop here.  The light was just perfect along with this fun couple makes for a great shot.  I am so looking forward to their wedding.

As much as I like Piedmont Park their are other wonderful places for your photography.  There is one for every personality.  From the urban look of the graffiti at the Krog Street Tunnel or the historic ruins of the Sweet Water State Park.  There are many locations for your engagement photography to fit your personality.  I have made a map of some of my favorite locations.  Please feel free to contact me and let me know some of your favorite locations.

Have fun at Your Engagement Photo Shoot by Atlanta Artistic Weddings!

Wedding Photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

I hope everyone is well.  This post on photography I am going to stress the most important thing for the best wedding photography or best engagement photography.  It is to have fun!!!  I am not going to flatter myself when I ask someone to smile it is going to be their best smile.  Their best smile comes from when they are genuinely have a great time and sharing a moment with someone they love.  When I am doing a engagement shoot what I want to do is put the bride and groom at ease.  Get to know them and introduce myself to them so that I can put them at ease.  That way when the wedding day comes I will be David their wedding photographer not some guy with a camera following them around.  They can trust me to do the best photography I can on their wedding day.

As you can tell from this photograph they are a couple that enjoy each other and are very much in love.  This is one of those spur of the moment shots.  This was early on in the photo session and the lipstick was fresh.  She gave him a sweet little kiss on the check and she noticed that some of her lipstick was left on his cheek.  What happened is this great unposed photo of two people in love having fun!  I just love the lipstick!  What a great mark of affection.

I am also including a little map for all you bride and grooms to be of photo locations for your save the date photos around Atlanta.   There are many great locations through out Atlanta.  You can click on the map and get directions and info for each location.  If you have some locations that are not on the map please let me know and I will be happy to add them so other people will know.

Thank you so much for visiting!  Feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help  in any way that I can!  You can visit my site www.atlantaartisticweddings.com or email me at david@atlantaartisticweddings.com.

Map of Some of Atlanta's Historic Places of Worship by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Historic Churches in Atlanta are Great Wedding Facilities for your Wedding with Interactive Map of the Churches and Synagogues

I have been involved in historic preservation in Atlanta for many years.  The places of worship in Atlanta have always been the pillar of the community.  They are some of the oldest buildings in Atlanta.  Some of the churches have been here since the 1800's or longer.  The great thing about using a place of worship is that they are generally with in walking distance from a hotel and they have plenty of parking for your guests. Generally I think if you get married in a place of worship it keeps you centered through out life.  Some of the historic places of worship are listed below.  You can also visit my wedding photography site to see the map at http://atlantaartisticweddings.com/index2.php?v=v1#!/6/Historic_Places_of_Worship_in_Atlanta_for_Your_Wedding/41

Wedding Photography at Night by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

Wedding Photography by Atlanta Wedding Photographer www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Atlanta Wedding Photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Sometimes lighting is perfect.  A lot of photographers mention the Golden hour but there is also Blue Hour, Civil Twilight, Nautical Twilight, and Astronomical Twilight.  I love the later ones such as the blue hour.  When I meet with brides they always ask me if we will have enough day light for there wedding and when is the lighting best during the day.  Generally your best photos are when the sun is low in the sky or the golden hour.  In recent years I have grown to enjoy the blue hour.  This wedding is a perfect example of the Blue hour.  They were lit by the chandelier in the gazebo. Which was perfect!  With the blue hour lighting we have a almost perfect shot.

Thank you so much for visiting.  I hope that you enjoy the photos and much as I did taking them.

Using Natural Light for Your Wedding Photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Using Natural Light by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com for Great Wedding Photography

As a Atlanta wedding photographer I get to shoot at a lot of wonderful venues.  Each one has it's own unique style.  At all venues the first thing I am looking for is natural light!  Just like anything out there natural is better!  I am always looking for the best light for my brides.  This photograph was taken at Emory University.  I saw this stair case and knew a couple things.  One it would make the bride look grand.  Two it would make the her beautiful train spread out.  Three the tall window was going to light her perfectly.  This has got to be one of my favorite shots because everything just came together.

Thank you so much for visiting.  I hope that you enjoy the photos and much as I did taking them.

Classic Black and White Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

Wedding photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

I just love classic Black and White wedding photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

As a Atlanta wedding photographer I have honor of shooting many wonderful weddings.  I always try to get to the venue early so I can walk around and see the best places for photography.  You may ask what are the best places for photography?  There are two things one is the background or setting but the main thing is light!  I love working with natural light.  When you have make up mirrors and such they have such a great light that you don't really need a distracting flash.  This photo was taken with the existing light in the room and a very fast prime lens.  I love the brides classic hair it has such a timeless quality to it.    The hair is not over done and the makeup looks natural which makes for a classic photo.

I hope that you enjoy the photo as much much as I did taking it. Thank you so much for visiting a and feel free to check out the other posts on Atlanta Wedding Photography.

Canoe Restaurant Wedding Photography by www.atlantaartisticweddings.com

Wedding Photography by www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com

Atlanta Wedding Photographer www.AtlantaArtisticWeddings.com shoots a lovely wedding at Canoe Restaurant

This week I had the honor of shooting a wedding at the Canoe Restaurant.  It is located at: 4199 Paces Ferry Road, SE Atlanta, Georgia 30339.

The staff could not be more gracious or welcoming.  The outside may have been a little cool but the inside was filled with warm hospitality.  The restaurant has a lovely decor but as you know it is all about location, location, location.

To quote there web site:
Tucked away along the peaceful banks of the Chattahoochee River, yet conveniently located in the Atlanta community of Vinings lies one of the country’s most acclaimed restaurants. Balanced by both culinary expertise and natural aesthetics, Canoe offers a rich, flavorful experience for all your senses. One that has garnered numerous accolades, like being inducted into Nation’s Restaurant News 2005 Fine Dining Hall of Fame. Here, the river rolls past a tranquil waterfront that is enhanced by a natural, yet manicured landscape – offering colorful gardens, crisp white special-event tents and meandering walkways that are the perfect spot for a before or after-dinner stroll.
