Mackenzie + Bobby

On November 17th, Sarah and I had the pleasure of photographing Mackenzie and Bobby’s fabulous downtown Atlanta wedding affair.

Mackenzie, an urban planner, and Bobby, a JAG lawyer, had met in Florida while both were working on a service project to help people in the area. After several years of dating, Bobby popped the question while the two were visiting Morocco earlier this year.

Though our day started quite early, it was worth every minute we documented. The beautiful bride and her five lovely bridesmaids enjoyed mimosas while having their hair and makeup done at The American Hotel. It was the perfect morning for many shared laughs and memories. And having just as much fun as the ladies, Bobby and his five dapper groomsmen spent the morning getting pampered. The guys woke up early and headed to Classic INTOWN Barbershop for a fresh, old school straight razor shave while sporting their very own wedding day getting ready robes.

Mackenzie and Bobby’s afternoon ceremony was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, which is located in the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic District. Established in 1912, Our Lady of Lourdes was the first African-American Catholic church in Atlanta. Following the ceremony, we traveled to Centennial Olympic Park for more photos. We captured some pretty great shots of the newlyweds as well as the whole wedding party—some even included a little late fall foliage. It was the epitome of classic Atlanta.

Once we finished at Centennial Olympic Park, we headed to the reception at Ventanas. For those who don’t know, Ventanas is an exclusive event space that offers “dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows which reveal a sweeping view of downtown and midtown Atlanta” as well as 9,547 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. This unique area is located on the Park Pavilion building’s 14th and 15th floors. Before the post wedding festivities began, we took advantage of Ventanas’ spectacular rooftop vantage point. We photographed the couple and wedding party on the helipad as well as returned later for some breathtaking night shots with Atlanta’s glimmering skyline as a backdrop. It was perfect.

There was lots of dancing and good food and drinks and more dancing and fun all around. Overall, it was a marvelous night in downtown Atlanta. Congratulations again, Mackenzie and Bobby!

Galina + Hesam

Photography by the Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings
Many, many moons ago, I mustered the courage to propose to my beautiful wife, who I’ve had the honor of being married to for over 28 blissful years. And what better setting to pop the question than one of Atlanta’s most iconic and eclectic landmarks—the Fox Theatre. I’ve written about this historic place before, but I never grow tired of talking about it. And I certainly haven’t grown tired of photographing it. In fact, the Fox is, perhaps, one of my top favorite places to photograph around the city. Why you ask? Well, for starters, just admire its unmistaken architectural beauty.
In 1928, the ornamental, mosque-style structure was originally constructed as home-base of Atlanta’s Yaarab Shrine organization. However, it was later renovated into a fully functioning, live entertainment venue, showcasing award-winning artists and bands, plays and musicals and classic film, including the premiere of Steamboat Willie, Disney’s first cartoon starring Mickey Mouse. And the entertainment isn’t the only incredible aspect of the Fox. The building, including its two ballrooms, is decorated in true Far East fashion with towering columns, vibrant mosaics, antique stained glass and authentic hieroglyphics written on the walls. It’s an ideal location for any event, including a fabulous, mid-November wedding.
Last Saturday, we had the absolute delight of capturing Galina and Hesam’s elegant wedding soiree at the Fox. Before the wedding festivities began, the beautiful bride and her four lovely bridesmaids gathered across Peachtree Street at the chic Georgian Terrace Hotel for hair, makeup and champagne. We documented snapshots of Galina getting ready, including my personal favorite—the one of her admiring her gorgeous wedding shoes. Galina and Hesam opted for a first look, which was photographed at the Cobb Galleria Gardens just north of the city, and we, of course, took many candids of the reception, which was held in the Fox’s highly themed Egyptian Ballroom.

While all photographs we managed to capture were ideal, the best photographs of Galina and Hesam were yet to come. Because there were no performances of any kind at the Fox that night, we were able to shoot in the auditorium and on the stage. Most wouldn’t give this unique opportunity a second thought. However, this was a big deal. The Fox maintains this certain grandeur that could make even the simplest person dream the biggest dreams. And who doesn’t love a “vast cobalt ‘sky’ with a sea of twinkling stars”? It’s breathtaking to say the least. A special ‘thank you’ to the site coordinator, Tom Bellamy, for his knowledge, kindness and assistance in giving us a memorable behind-the-scenes look. Side note, if you’ve never experienced the Fox Theatre in person; schedule a guided tour as soon as you can. You won’t regret it.
I could ramble on about this historic place and still not be able to craft the perfect words to describe how special it is. While the obvious visible appeal is present, another element of the Fox that makes it a truly beautiful place is the people working there. Being a seasoned wedding photographer, I’ve met and worked many wonderful and talented wedding industry professionals, who’ve been in the game for quite sometime and are good at what they do. However, I’ve never met anyone as accommodating and delightful and dripping with Southern hospitality as those at the Fox. Rachel Bomeli, the Fox Director of Events, has assembled a knowledgeable team of unique creatives, who demonstrate their talents and overall positive attributes to make any event possible. Nancy Lutz—the Director of Special Events, who booked Galina and Hesam’s wedding and was present for their walk through—answered any questions and assisted in any way she could. And I can’t leave out Leigh Burns, who is the Director of the Fox Theatre Institute, which is “a dynamic outreach program offering historic preservation and operations expertise, consultation and education to performing arts venues in Georgia and the region.” Without her, the Fox and its rich history wouldn’t exist. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Overall, it was a fabulous night. Congratulations again, Galina and Hesam!

Mayra + Cole

Photography by the Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings
Ah, sweet November, we meet again! And with it, more stories of love with blissful endings. On Saturday, we had the pleasure of photographing Mayra and Cole’s stunning north Georgia vineyard wedding.

What began as nothing more than an acquaintanceship flourished into an extraordinary bond. Because the two had mutual friends, Mayra and Cole had often crossed paths. There had been an intramural softball game and the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Gala where he had expressed his interest in her. However, time hadn’t been on their side—Mayra was dating someone else. It wasn’t until the summer of 2016 when fate finally started to align. Mayra was selected as one of Tallahassee’s Top Singles—a local fundraising event hosted by Tallahassee Magazine. Because Cole had been a former participant, she reached out to him. The pair kept in contact, and eventually Cole asked Mayra on a date, which included a scenic boat ride down the St. Marks River, scalloping, watching one of many picturesque sunsets and a delicious meal made from their fresh catch. And the rest included many adventures, lots of happiness and love and a heartfelt proposal on the sugar sand dunes of WaterSound, Fla.

Mayra and Cole tied the knot at the gorgeous DeBarge Winery and Vineyards in Lafayette, Ga. What’s interesting about this beautiful piece of property is it’s proximity to Chattanooga, Tenn. DeBarge, known as Chattanooga’s first, and only, inner-city winery, is located 20 miles south of downtown. The wedding ceremony was held at the winery’s country chic outdoor pavilion overlooking Pigeon Mountain and rows of grape vines.

Before the revelries commenced, we took some gorgeous snapshots of the happy couple throughout DeBarge. Fall shined in all its colorful glory, even after the sun had set. My favorite photograph was the one of Mayra and Cole strolling through the vineyard at dusk. It was the epitome of classic romance.

The reception included musical offerings from The Malemen Show Band and fireworks extravaganza by Zambelli Fireworks.

It was truly a magical night. Congratulations again, Mayra and Cole.

Jennifer + Jonathan

Photography by the Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings

It’s quite incredible how quickly October came and went. And with it went the warm temperatures, pumpkins, colorful foliage and many wonderful wedding memories. I couldn’t think of a better way to end an eventful, yet rewarding month than with another gorgeous Atlanta wedding.

On Saturday, we had the honor of documenting Jennifer and Jonathan’s lovely fairytale nuptial. Jonathan, a graduate of West Point in New York, had met Jennifer in August of 2014, and the two had quickly become friends. By November of that same year, they had recognized their unique computability with one another and decided to give a relationship a try. For the past several years, the pair crafted an unconditional love and beautiful life together in Brookhaven with their fur babies, MJ and Lulu. Last year, on their three-year anniversary, Jonathan took Jennifer to St. Lucia to celebrate, and underneath a private beach cabana, he popped the question. And the rest was pure bliss.

Besides candid photo opts and layered cake with buttercream icing, of course, one wedding day addition I never grow tired of is the sentimental elements each couple adds. More specifically, those that honor loved ones and incorporate family keepsakes. This particular wedding day was no exception. Instead of opting for a standard wedding gown, Jennifer chose a different approach by altering and wearing her grandmother’s—and later, mother’s—vintage A-line skirt. She matched the priceless piece of wedding fashion with a modern top. Jennifer’s stunning bridal look was the perfect blend of old and new.

Before the ceremony, which took place at the Emory Conference Center Hotel, Jennifer and Jonathan did a memorable first look on the pedestrian bridge across Houston Mill Road, connecting the hotel to the Miller-Ward Alumni House. It was an ideal autumn afternoon for wedding photos.

Following a fun reception in the main ballroom with lots of dancing and silly photo booth fun and a magical sparkler send-off, the newly weds, along with several wedding guests, continued celebrating at Wisteria Lanes Bowling Alley.

Congratulations again, Jennifer and Jonathan.
